Meena Ayittey is a multi-award-winning British-Ghanaian writer and director based in London. She works across commercials, film, and television, bringing her distinctive storytelling style to every project.

Whenever I ask my mother to describe me as a child, she always gives the same response—after a long sigh and a dramatic pause...

"You were… different!"

Growing up, I devoured art, films, and MTV (back when it was actually good), which sparked my obsession with storytelling. Like many Ghanaian parents, mine had high hopes of me becoming a doctor—but their attempts to steer me towards medicine failed spectacularly.

Instead, I graduated with a Fine Art degree from Central Saint Martins and have since been working in film, television, and advertising.

With a background in VFX, animation and compositing, I love directing stories that take audiences to unexpected places—stories that challenge perspectives, explore the darker side of human nature, and amplify voices that often go unheard.

These days, my mother fully supports my career. When I asked her what changed, she simply shrugged and said:

"There was no stopping you."

Damn right, mum.

I also like rock music. And cats.
